Sweat-resistant tan: what to know before your next workout

Can you work out wearing fake tan? Get clear on development time, sweat-resistant claims and the routine to follow before your next session.

Your tan needs a rest window, too

You've planned your sessions. Now give your tan a place in the diary. The key distinction is between freshly applied tan and colour that has had time to develop and be rinsed.

For our eight-hour body-tanning routine, leave your tan on for eight hours and avoid sweating throughout that window. Save the gym, run, hot class and sauna for after development and your first rinse. Always follow the directions on your bottle.

What does sweat-resistant actually mean?

Sweat-resistant should never be read as sweatproof. It doesn't mean you can train straight after application, or that colour will never fade or transfer. Any product's resistance claim depends on its testing and conditions of use.

Your routine still matters: how you prep, when you apply and what happens during development all deserve attention.

Put training first

Try scheduling application after your last workout of the day. Shower, cool down fully and allow your skin to dry before tanning. Choose an evening when you can stay cool and comfortable for the full development window.

Loose, dark clothing is a practical choice while you wait. Leave your favourite pale matching set for another moment; dark fabric can still stain, so choose something washable.

After your first rinse

Return to training once you've completed the bottle's development and rinse instructions. Keep a clean towel handy and blot perspiration gently. Afterwards, shower and change out of damp kit rather than sitting in it for hours.

BODÈE is built around people who move. A little planning makes room for both your tan and your training.
